It’s time to start thinking about how you want to celebrate your day.
I do realize this is more of that invisible mental load added onto your plate.
This is not lost on me.
However, if in the past you have felt annoyed, resentful, angry or disappointed with your mother’s day experience - this is for you.
Think about these two things:
What would your ideal day look like? Start creating your vision.
If last year brought up some hard emotions for you - what was the root of that? What was disappointing, what do you want to go differently?
Then communicate this to your people.
If you aren’t clear on what you want, your family won’t be able to meet those expectations.
You can either prepare your family for what you want, or you’re preparing to be disappointed.
Really, that’s why we need to communicate. They can’t read your mind, so tell them clearly.
So what do you want?
There is no right way to celebrate mother’s day.
For some people that may mean being away from your children, or having someone take your children out while you have the opportunity to be in your house alone.
For some people it may mean doing a fun outing and spending quality time with your kids.
Maybe it’s a card that showers you with beautiful words of appreciation from your partner and children.
For some it looks like acts of service and love - like making and cleaning up dinner, or breakfast in bed.
Maybe it looks like gifts that help you feel loved, seen and appreciated.
Or maybe it looks like taking some time to truly care for yourself so that you can be the best version of yourself for your family.
However you want to spend mother’s day - you aren’t wrong.
Make sure to clearly communicate what you would like and hopefully you can feel loved and appreciated on this day.
Here’s to you and all that you do everyday for your family!
Warmly,
Amy
